Placements24 is seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to head the building services division in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. The role demands a visionary leader with extensive experience in designing complex electrical systems for commercial, residential and institutional buildings.

You will lead design teams, manage client relationships, ensure design quality, mentor junior engineers and contribute to iconic projects in a sustainable, innovative environment.

About the Role

Our client, a renowned architectural and engineering consultancy, is seeking an accomplished Lead Electrical Design Engineer to spearhead their building services division in Stellenbosch, Western Cape . This senior role demands a visionary leader with extensive experience in designing complex electrical systems for commercial, residential, and institutional buildings. You will be responsible for leading design teams, managing client relationships, ensuring design quality, and mentoring junior engineers. We are looking for an individual who combines technical mastery with strong leadership capabilities and a passion for sustainable and innovative building design. Your expertise will be crucial in delivering high-performance electrical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for diverse building projects from concept to completion.
• Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
• Develop detailed electrical design specifications, drawings, and calculations using relevant software (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD).
• Ensure designs comply with national building codes, standards, and client requirements.
• Conduct site visits to monitor installation progress and resolve design-related issues.
• Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and other consultants to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Perform electrical load calculations, distribution system design, lighting design, and power systems planning.
• Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations.
• Champion sustainable design principles and energy-efficient solutions.

Requirements

• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in electrical building services design.
• Proven track record of successfully leading electrical design teams and projects.
• Expertise in electrical design software, including BIM platforms like Revit MEP.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., SANS, NEC, IEC).
• Strong understanding of power distribution, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, and earthing.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and client management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines.
• Experience in the Stellenbosch, Western Cape area or similar high-profile developments is an advantage.
