Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Chemical Process Design Engineer for its George, Western Cape facility. The role focuses on conceptualizing, designing, and implementing new chemical production facilities and enhancing existing ones with emphasis on safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

You will lead design work, perform simulations, coordinate with procurement and construction, ensure compliance with SA standards, and contribute to ongoing process improvement and sustainability.

Qualifications

• BS in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• At least 4 years of process design experience in the chemical industry.
• Proficiency in Aspen HYSYS or ChemCAD.
• Strong knowledge of mass transfer, heat transfer, and reaction kinetics.
• Experience with HAZOP and risk analysis techniques.
• Familiarity with SA engineering codes and standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Able to communicate technical information clearly and work well in a team.
• AutoCAD experience is advantageous.
• Valid South Africa work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of new chemical process plants and modifications to existing facilities.
• Prepare PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing, and material selection.
• Perform process simulations and calculations to validate designs.
• Conduct HAZOP studies and risk assessments for processes.
• Collaborate with procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
• Develop operational procedures and support start-up phases.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols.
• Evaluate new technologies to improve efficiency and sustainability.
• Manage engineering documentation and project records.
