Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Bioinformatics Scientist for its state-of-the-art research facility in Rustenburg, North West. The role centers on driving genomics and transcriptomics analyses, developing pipelines, and mentoring a team in a collaborative lab environment.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD and 7+ years in bioinformatics, with leadership experience and fluency in Python/R and flagship tools. On-site position with opportunities to publish and advance scientific discovery.

Qualifications

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive bioinformatics experience; 3+ in lead/supervisory roles.
• Expertise with NGS data (Illumina, PacBio).
• Proficiency with Python and/or R; experience with bioinformatics libraries/tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of bioinformatics pipelines for high-throughput sequencing data (WGS, WES, RNA-Seq).
• Design analyses to identify genetic variations, gene expression, and functional genomics insights.
• Develop and apply statistical methods for data interpretation and modeling.
• Collaborate with experimental biologists to translate questions into computational approaches.
• Manage and mentor a team of bioinformatics analysts and scientists.
• Ensure data integrity, reproducibility, and documentation of analyses.
