About the Role

Our client, a prestigious architectural and development consultancy, is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Architect to spearhead their commercial and retail development projects in George, Western Cape . This senior position is crucial for driving the design excellence and successful execution of large-scale retail centres, mixed-use developments, and commercial office spaces. You will play a key role in translating client visions into functional, aesthetically appealing, and economically viable architectural solutions. This role demands strong leadership qualities, a keen eye for detail, and a comprehensive understanding of the commercial property market and its architectural demands. The successful candidate will be a key player in shaping the built environment of George and the wider Western Cape region, contributing to significant urban regeneration and development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design process for commercial and retail projects from conception through to completion.
• Manage and mentor a team of architects, designers, and technicians, ensuring high-quality design output.
• Engage directly with developers, investors, and retail clients to understand their requirements and strategic objectives.
• Develop innovative design concepts and master plans for complex commercial and retail environments.
• Ensure all designs comply with local planning regulations, building codes, and accessibility standards in the Western Cape .
• Oversee the production of detailed architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
• Liaise with consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies throughout the project lifecycle.
• Conduct site feasibility studies and provide architectural advice on potential development opportunities in George .
• Stay abreast of market trends, innovative materials, and construction technologies relevant to commercial and retail architecture.
• Present design proposals and project updates to clients and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Architecture or equivalent.
• At least 10-12 years of post-graduate experience, with a significant focus on commercial and retail architectural projects.
• Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex, large-scale developments.
• Expertise in architectural design software (Revit, AutoCAD, BIM software).
• Strong understanding of contract administration and construction management principles.
• Excellent client management and negotiation skills.
• Experience working within the South African architectural regulatory framework.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
• Knowledge of the George commercial real estate market is a plus.
