Job summary

Network Finance is seeking an experienced pricing actuary to lead and grow the actuarial pricing team in Gauteng. You will deliver pricing work to tight service levels, provide strategic pricing advice to senior stakeholders, and shape pricing governance and modelling standards.

The role requires a strong track record in General Insurance pricing, leadership, and collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science required.
  • Progress towards actuarial qualification through recognised examinations is essential.
  • Additional relevant actuarial or analytical qualifications are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the actuarial pricing team to meet service levels and milestones.
  • Provide expert pricing advice to executives and stakeholders.
  • Analyse pricing performance, identify trends, and communicate recommendations to Product and Underwriting.
  • Drive portfolio management initiatives and monitor KPIs.
  • Develop and maintain pricing monitoring reports, data sources, and analytics tools.
  • Ensure modelling standards and governance across the team.
  • Collaborate with Product, Underwriting, Reinsurance, Capital, Reserving, Finance, Claims, MIS, IT.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop team members while fostering high performance.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the actuarial pricing team, ensuring delivery of work within agreed service levels and project milestones.
  • Provide expert actuarial support and pricing advice to business stakeholders and senior management.
  • Analyse pricing performance, identify trends and opportunities, and communicate recommendations to Product and Underwriting teams.
  • Drive portfolio management initiatives and monitor performance against key business KPIs.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance pricing monitoring reports, data sources, and analytical tools.
  • Ensure modelling standards, governance requirements, and pricing best practices are maintained across the team.
  • Collaborate with key business areas including Product, Underwriting, Reinsurance, Capital, Reserving, Finance, Claims, Policy Administration, Management Information, and IT.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop team members while fostering a high-performance culture.
Job Experience and Skills Required
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science.
  • Significant progress towards actuarial qualification through recognised actuarial examinations.
  • Additional relevant actuarial or analytical qualifications will be advantageous.
Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years' General Insurance pricing experience.
  • Proven experience providing actuarial insight and advice to senior management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including planning, prioritisation, resource allocation, and people management.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple business functions and influencing key stakeholders.
  • Exposure to Capital Modelling, Reserving, or other actuarial disciplines will be advantageous.
  • Experience managing a diverse portfolio of work and balancing competing priorities.
Skills:
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint and VBA automation.
  • Strong SAS experience preferred.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency.
  • QlikView experience advantageous.
  • Experience with pricing software such as WTW, Earnix, Quantee, or similar platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of General Insurance pricing concepts including GLM Modelling, Segmentation, Large Account Pricing, Rate and Exposure Change, Premium and Loss Ratio Walks, Inflation and Frequency Assumptions.
  • Strong project management, stakeholder management, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and decision-making abilities.

  • Strong commercial awareness and business acumen.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder expectations and drive change effectively.
  • Results-driven with a continuous improvement mindset.
