Pricing Actuary (Non-Life) | Johannesburg

Are you an experienced Non-Life Actuary with strong pricing and modelling experience, looking for an opportunity where you can combine technical actuarial expertise with product development, client solutions and strategic decision-making?
A leading financial services environment is looking for a Pricing Actuary (Non-Life) to join a specialist actuarial team supporting innovative insurance and risk solutions.
The Opportunity
You’ll play a senior technical role across pricing, product development and insurance structuring, providing actuarial insights that support both existing portfolios and new business opportunities.
You’ll work closely with actuaries, data specialists, management and clients to develop commercially viable solutions while ensuring technical soundness, profitability and appropriate risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of pricing frameworks, product development and structuring initiatives.
- Lead rate reviews and re-pricing exercises across existing product portfolios.
- Assess and review new product opportunities, ensuring they are commercially viable and appropriately structured.
- Review actuarial work and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to structure new deals and develop appropriate underwriting and capital solutions.
- Investigate and explain pricing or performance variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure projects meet relevant risk, governance and audit requirements.
- Collaborate with technical and external partners to develop pricing models and processes.
- Support the development of bespoke insurance products, balancing innovation, profitability and sustainability.
- Monitor product performance and profitability through financial and actuarial reporting.
- Provide senior technical advice to management and external stakeholders.
- Translate complex actuarial analysis into clear, commercially relevant recommendations.
What we're looking for
- Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related quantitative discipline.
- Associate Actuary or strong progress towards Fellowship.
- Successful completion of F103 – General Insurance Principles or an equivalent short-term insurance qualification.
- Strong Non-Life pricing experience.
- Proven experience with actuarial modelling.
- Strong understanding of insurance products, contracts and relevant legislation.
- Exposure to the SAM capital regime.
- Strong Excel and analytical capabilities.
- Coding experience in SQL, Python and/or R would be advantageous.
