Job summary

Groupe CFAO in South Africa seeks a skilled LCV Technician to service, diagnose and repair light commercial vehicles. The role requires MERSETA accreditation, a completed motor trade apprenticeship, and a minimum of five years of technician experience.

You will work with modern diagnostic equipment, maintain safety standards, and train apprentices while providing excellent customer service and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of technician experience.
• Valid South African driver's license.
• Clean criminal record.
• Accredited motor vehicle technical qualification (MERSETA or similar).
• Completed motor trade apprenticeship (MERSETA).
• Experience and training in the group manufacturer's range.
• Verbal and written communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Provide diagnostic services for workshop vehicles (steering, brakes, transmission, drivetrain, fuel systems, electronic components).
• Use modern diagnostic equipment to maximize service efficiency and interpret findings.
• Service and repair vehicles according to standards; ensure work on job cards is completed and recorded.
• Explain service details to customers as required.
• Maintain safety procedures and proper PPE usage at all times.
• Coach/train Dealer Repair Shop Assistants/Apprentices and attend technical training as required.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for consideration, the following requirements are essential:

• An accredited motor vehicle technical qualification at a recognized institution (MERSETA/ similar)
• A fully completed motor trade apprenticeship (MERSETA).
• Minimum 5 years’ Technician experience.
• Clean criminal record.
• Experience and training in the group manufacturer's range.
• A valid South African driver's license and own reliable transport.
• Verbal and written communication skills in English.

Job Specification

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Ensure sufficient productive hours are sold compared to productive hours available.
• Ensure the preparation, service, and repairs of all vehicles within the workshop are done according to
  standard.
• Comply to and implement the correct safety procedures when executing a specific task or job.
• Utilize all required PPE equipment provided, including gloves, eye protection and safety shoes.
• Provide a diagnostic service for workshop vehicles (e.g. steering, brakes, transmission, drive train, fuel
  systems, electronic components etc.).
• Make use of modern diagnostic equipment to maximize effective vehicle service and to interpret findings.
• Diagnose faults by utilizing the recommended equipment.
• Service all required electronic equipment.
• Ensure all work on job cards are completed to specification and recorded accurately.
• Discuss and explain service details with customers as and when required.
• Achieve a continuous high performance work ethic of detail and deadline orientation.
• Ensure service comebacks are eliminated based on negligent work performed.
• Provide technical and/ or non-technical assistance to the workshop staff.
• Coach and train Dealer Repair Shop Assistants/ Apprentices.
• Attend qualified technical training, as and when required.
• Keep updated with Group-required web-based training and external courses.
• Ad hoc admin/ other responsibilities as and when required.
