Job summary

City Lodge Hotels Limited is seeking a Laundry Supervisor who will oversee laundry operations, supervise staff, ensure hygiene and quality, and support housekeeping leadership across the property.

The role requires previous housekeeping or laundry experience, plus strong leadership and compliance with safety and audit standards. Long shifts and extensive standing are expected in a hospitality setting.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10–12 completed; internal candidates only require Grade 10-12.
  • Must have completed chemical, equipment, linen and terry handling, and first-time manager courses.
  • Computer literacy essential, especially Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Place orders within budget and audit constraints.
  • Adhere to audit requirements and control costs to minimise wastage.
  • Minimise casual labour and manage staffing per shift.
  • Process and archive documentation per audit standards.
  • Carry out Health & Safety and Disaster Management requirements.
  • Lead and train cyclical cleaning programmes daily/weekly/monthly.
  • Inspect areas for housekeeping quality and brand standards.
  • Plan staffing levels and maintain service standards across all hotel areas.

Position Detail
Overall Purpose of the Job

This role, like all others in the group, must prioritise “making every guest a returning and referring guest”. Oversees the laundry operations by managing laundry staff, ensuring the timely cleaning of linens in the correct and specified manner, maintaining equipment, and upholding hygiene and quality standards in line with hotel policies. Additionally, supports the Housekeeper in leading the housekeeping department by supervising daily operations, maintaining high standards of cleanliness across all hotel areas, and assisting in the training and coordination of housekeeping staff to ensure efficient and cost-effective service delivery.

Education (Formal Qualification Required)

Minimum

Grade 10 – 12 (internal candidate).

Grade 12 (external candidate).

Must have completed chemical, equipment, linen and terry handling, 1st time manager/supervisor courses.

Computer literacy is essential particularly with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Carry out any duties as may be requested by a more senior member of management and in line with expertise and role.

Special Conditions

The job involves the working of long hours and shifts as per the requirements of the hospitality industry and in accordance with the applicable legislation.

Required to provide support in cleaning rooms as operational needs arise.

This job requires repetitive movements, manual handling, awkward postures, prolonged standing and walking, pushing and pulling of loads, working in confined and variable spaces, sustaining work‑pace–related fatigue, and managing exposure to psychosocial and cognitive stressors.

Position Requirements

Detailed Description / Output

  • Places all orders in compliance with budget constraints and Audit requirements.
  • Always adheres to all Audit requirements.
  • Exercises effective control over potential costs and actively works to minimise wastage.
  • Minimises and effectively manages the use of casual labour.
  • Processes, stores and archives all documentation and correspondence effectively and in line with Audit requirements.
  • Carry out and upholds all Disaster Management and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Implements and trains the Cyclical Cleaning Programme on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Utilises all operating equipment in line with operating instructions and as per training received and that all maintenance matters are reported/ attended to as soon as possible.
  • Launders and stores all linen as per the required standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all areas relating to proper housekeeping.
  • Plans and controls the adequate and compliant levels of staffing per shift.
  • Maintains and enhances the brand and group standards, as applicable, to ensure consistency and continuity in service levels throughout all group hotels.
  • Be on the lookout for and be aware of any enhancements that could improve the group’s product offering, service delivery, productivity and efficiencies and to communicate such to the group.
  • Creates the environment in which guests receive excellent service, in accordance with the company’s marketing strategies and promise, as well as the corporate image.
  • Participates in and manages the hotel’s human resource function in accordance with the company’s human resource policies.
  • Conducts and takes part in all legislative and operational training, while tracking attendance of direct reports.
  • Achieves and maintains good working relationships and cooperation with hotel employees and company colleagues.
  • Upskills and develops personal growth plans by participating in personal development activities.
