Job summary

Daimler Trucks North America LLC in South Africa is seeking a Laboratory Technician to ensure effective testing and quality control of greensand, silica, core sand, and incoming raw materials, while supporting material development and supervisory activities.

Responsibilities include sampling, testing, and recording results; supporting investigations and corrective actions; audits and calibration of equipment, and maintaining housekeeping and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Matric/ NQF Level 4 with Maths & Science passed.
• Minimum 2 years applicable experience.
• Demonstrated work ethic and track record.
• An understanding of Laboratory operations.
• Good communication.
• Computer literate.
• Able to read SWIs.
• Able to work autonomously.

Responsibilities

• To sample and test incoming raw material as per procedure, including green sand.
• Carry out tests on the finished product: tensile, HB, prepare micro specimens, wedge tests, prepare samples of defects and record results.
• Assist supervision with process investigations, raw material development and participation in corrective action.
• Inspect die welding process and initiate corrective action; record in standard format.
• Carry out calibration and audit checks on equipment.
• Able to partake in internal & external audits.
• Assist in problem solving.
• Run tests unsupervised.
• Perform any equal or lower graded function as instructed by supervisors.
• Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to safety regulations.

Role Purpose

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• To sample and test incoming raw material as per procedure, including green sand.
• Carry out the following test on the finished product: tensile, H.B., prepares micro specimens, wedge tests, prepare samples of defects and record results.
