Job summary

BVi Consulting Engineers Western Cape (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Junior Structural Engineer for Renewable Energy Projects in their Cape Town office. The role is permanent and involves hands-on structural analysis, modelling and design work for wind and solar infrastructure.

The successful candidate will have an MEng/MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering and be eligible to register with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer, with a solid grounding in mathematics and structural mechanics.

Qualifications

• MEng/MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
• Strong foundation in mathematics and solid mechanics.
• Experience with reinforced concrete, structural steel and foundations.
• Ability to register with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Structural analysis, parametric modelling and design calculations for civil infrastructure on renewable energy projects.
• Prepare computational and finite element models for wind and solar structural works.
• Apply solid mechanics and limit state design principles in scripts, models and calculation sheets.
• Prepare and review design reports, calculation packs, specifications and drawing input.
• Use computational and AI-assisted tools to prepare and check models and documentation.
• Provide structural engineering input from design through to construction, including responses to site and construction queries.
• Support senior engineers and project managers and take increasing responsibility for project and technical deliverables.
• Willingness to travel to project sites when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for structural analysis, parametric modelling and design calculations for civil infrastructure on renewable energy projects, with a focus on reinforced concrete, structural steel and foundations.
• Prepare computational and finite element models for wind and solar structural works.
• Apply solid mechanics and limit state design principles in scripts, models and calculation sheets.
• Prepare and review design reports, calculation packs, specifications and drawing input.
• Use computational and AI-assisted tools to prepare and check models and documentation.
• Provide structural engineering input from design through to construction, including responses to site and construction queries
• Support senior engineers and project managers as required and take increasing responsibility for project and technical deliverables.
• MEng/MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a clear foundation in mathematics and solid mechanics.
• A working grasp of structural behaviour, including equilibrium, load paths, limit-state design, reinforced concrete and structural steel.
• Proof you can implement engineering through computation: scripting, parametric modelling, or finite element work you can explain.
• Clear written engineering. Calculation sheets and short notes that a reviewer can follow.
• Eligibility to register with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer.
• A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites when needed
