Job summary

Prostaff Holdings in Johannesburg is seeking a Maintenance Technician for a manufacturing environment. You will maintain, troubleshoot and repair production and processing equipment used in media preparation, sterilisation and dispensing.

The role requires reading technical manuals and performing preventative maintenance, while assisting with pumps, compressors and pneumatic systems. The ideal candidate has solid mechanical aptitude, good problem-solving skills, and is physically fit to work in

Qualifications

• Previous maintenance experience in manufacturing or industrial environments preferred.
• Ability to read maintenance manuals and technical drawings is advantageous.
• Recent N6 graduates in Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical or Mechatronics may apply.
• Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and repair production and processing equipment used in media preparation, sterilisation and dispensing.
• Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance on factory machinery.
• Assist with maintenance of pumps, compressors, and air-driven systems.
• Service pressure vessels, including pressure cookers/autoclave-type equipment.
• Troubleshoot pneumatic systems and air-driven dispensing lines.
• Inspect, maintain and replace solenoid valves and control components.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify maintenance issues before breakdowns.
• Assist fault-finding on mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.
• Ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently per company standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete job cards.

Job description

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Previous maintenance experience having worked within a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment is preferred but not essential.
• Experience working with pumps, compressors, pneumatic systems, pressure vessels, or solenoid valves would be advantageous.
• The company is happy to employ a recent N6 graduate in either Mechanical or Electrical, Electromechanical, or Mechatronics, or a related qualification with no work experience for the role, as full training will be provided.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals is advantageous.
• Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
• The successful candidate should be physically fit and able to work in a factory environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of production and processing equipment used in the preparation, sterilisation, and dispensing of medical culture media.
• Performing preventative and breakdown maintenance on factory machinery and equipment.
• Assisting with the maintenance and repair of pumps, compressors, and air-driven systems.
• Maintaining and servicing pressure vessels, including pressure cookers/autoclave-type equipment used in the cooking and sterilisation of media.
• Troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic systems and air-driven dispensing lines.
• Inspecting, maintaining, and replacing solenoid valves and associated control components.
• Monitoring equipment performance and identifying potential maintenance issues before breakdowns occur.
• Assisting with fault-finding on mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.
• Ensuring all machinery operates safely and efficiently in accordance with company standards.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and complete job cards.
