Job summary

AOSIS is seeking a highly organised Junior Production Coordinator/Editor (Journals Publishing) to support the production process from manuscript acceptance through to publication in our Durbanville, Cape Town office.

The role is ideal for a recent graduate or early‑career publishing professional who enjoys coordinating complex workflows, ensuring quality standards, and liaising with authors, editors, and service providers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Publishing or a related field.
• 0–2 years' experience in publishing or editorial coordination.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Familiarity with publishing workflows and basic XML/HTML is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate manuscripts through copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, author corrections, and publication.
• Maintain publication schedules and monitor production progress against deadlines.
• Communicate with authors, editors, proofreaders, typesetters, and other production partners.
• Track manuscripts and production milestones using workflow management systems.
• Review copyedited and typeset files against house style and production standards.
• Verify the accuracy of author corrections and proofs.
• Assist with DOI registration and Crossref deposit activities.
• Prepare routine reports on publication progress and production status.
