Job summary

AOSIS seeks a highly organized Junior Production Coordinator/Editor for journals publishing. This onsite role in Durbanville supports the production workflow from manuscript acceptance to publication, coordinating tasks, timelines and stakeholders with meticulous attention to quality and metadata accuracy.

Ideal for graduates or early-career editors, you will work with copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, and service providers while ensuring alignment with house style and Open Journal Systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Publishing, English, Journalism, Communications, Information Science, Humanities, or related field.
• 0-2 years' experience in publishing, editorial coordination, academic administration, content production, or related environment.
• Recent graduates with internships or practical publishing experience encouraged to apply.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; strong proofreading and formatting skills.
• Basic understanding of digital publishing workflows and ability to learn publishing systems quickly.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate manuscripts through copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, author corrections, and publication.
• Maintain publication schedules and monitor progress against deadlines.
• Communicate with authors, editors, proofreaders, typesetters, and production partners.
• Track manuscripts and milestones using workflow management systems.
• Verify publication metadata for completeness and accuracy; assist with DOI registration and Crossref deposits.
