Placements24 is seeking a junior energy trader for their Soweto desk. This on-site role offers hands-on learning in energy trading, market analysis, and risk management within the electricity market.

You will support senior traders, monitor markets, and contribute to developing trading strategies. Ideal candidates hold a quantitative degree and excel under pressure, with strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in finance/economics/math/engineering.
• Strong understanding of financial markets and risk concepts.
• Proficiency in Excel and data analysis.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Internship experience in finance or energy is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior traders in the execution of trades across energy commodities (e.g., electricity, natural gas).
• Monitor real-time market data, news, and indicators that may impact energy prices.
• Conduct fundamental and technical analysis of energy markets to identify trading opportunities.
• Prepare daily market reports, including price movements, volumes and drivers.
• Support development and refinement of trading strategies and models.
• Help manage and monitor trading positions and risk exposures.
• Ensure compliance with trading policies and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with risk management and operations teams to ensure smooth trade settlement.
