About the Role

Our client, a dynamic player in the energy commodities market, is seeking a motivated and analytically minded Junior Energy Trader to join their trading desk in Soweto, Gauteng. This entry-level position offers an exciting opportunity to learn the intricacies of energy trading, market analysis, and risk management within the fast-paced electricity market. You will work closely with senior traders, supporting them in executing trades, monitoring market movements, and contributing to trading strategies. The role requires a strong quantitative aptitude, a keen interest in financial markets, and a dedication to professional development. This is an on-site position, integral to the operations of our trading floor in Soweto.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist senior traders in the execution of trades across various energy commodities (e.g., electricity, natural gas).


• Monitor real-time market data, news, and economic indicators that may impact energy prices.


• Conduct fundamental and technical analysis of energy markets to identify trading opportunities.


• Prepare daily market reports, including price movements, trading volumes, and key market drivers.


• Support the development and refinement of trading strategies and models.


• Help manage and monitor trading positions and risk exposures.


• Ensure compliance with all trading policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.


• Collaborate with risk management and operations teams to ensure smooth trade settlement.


• Participate in team meetings to discuss market outlook and trading strategies.


• Perform ad-hoc analysis as requested by senior trading staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.


• Strong understanding of financial markets, trading principles, and risk management concepts.
