Job summary

Mecad Systems is seeking a motivated junior draughtsman to support the Senior Draughtsman in creating and refining technical drawings for steel manufacturing. You will use SolidWorks to draft and amend drawings, and prepare files for laser-cutting machines while learning from experienced colleagues.

Ideal candidates have a related qualification and basic SolidWorks knowledge, with a keen eye for detail and effective communication to ensure manufacturability and compliance with specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Draughtsman with technical drawings and design work.


• Create and amend drawings using SolidWorks.


• Prepare drawings for laser-cutting machines.


• Assist with the development and drawing of samples.


• Make drawing adjustments according to specifications and feedback.


• Ensure drawings are accurate and meet manufacturing requirements.


• Work closely with the production team to ensure drawings are suitable for manufacturing.


• Assist with general draughting and design-related tasks as required.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Draughting, Mechanical Engineering or a related field would be advantageous.


• Basic to intermediate knowledge of SolidWorks.


• Understanding of technical drawings and manufacturing processes.


• Experience or exposure to steel manufacturing, sheet metal or laser cutting would be advantageous.


• Good attention to detail and accuracy.


• Willingness to learn and take direction from the Senior Draughtsman.


• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
