Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Junior Corporate Lawyer to join our client’s East London legal team. You will assist in drafting agreements, conduct research, maintain corporate records, and support transactional work under senior lawyers’ guidance.

The ideal candidate has up to 3 years PQE, a solid grounding in corporate or commercial law, excellent drafting and analytical skills, and a proactive, team-oriented attitude in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with up to 3 years post-qualification experience in corporate or commercial law.
• Solid understanding of South African corporate law principles.
• Excellent drafting, research, and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts and corporate documents.
• Conduct legal research on corporate and commercial law topics.
• Maintain corporate registers and ensure compliance with company secretarial duties.
• Support senior lawyers in M&A transactions and due diligence.
• Assist with preparing board resolutions and governance documents.
• Liaise with clients and external counsel as directed.

About the Role

Our client is looking for an ambitious and detail-oriented Junior Corporate Lawyer to join their legal team in East London . This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a broad range of corporate and commercial legal matters, supporting the more senior members of the legal department. You will assist in drafting agreements, conducting legal research, managing corporate records, and supporting transactional work. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, possess strong foundational legal knowledge, and is keen to develop their career in corporate law within the vibrant business community of the Eastern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts and corporate documents.
• Conduct legal research on various corporate and commercial law issues.
• Maintain corporate registers and ensure compliance with company secretarial duties.
• Support senior lawyers in M&A transactions, due diligence, and other corporate activities.
• Assist with the preparation of board resolutions and other corporate governance documents.
• Liaise with clients and external counsel as directed by senior legal staff.

Requirements
