Job summary

Lighthouse Finance in Durban's Hillcrest invites applications for a Junior Accountant who will support the accounting and tax team with day-to-day financial operations in a full-time, on-site role. Role Description

The Junior Accountant will support the accounting and tax team with day-to-day financial operations in a full-time, on-site role located in Hillcrest, Durban. Responsibilities include posting and reconciling journal entries, maintaining ledgers, and assisting medior and senior accountants with month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings. The role involves preparing basic financial reports, supporting tax return preparation, and ensuring accurate and timely data entry. The Junior Accountant will help manage accounts payable and receivable, follow up on outstanding items, and assist in responding to client queries. The role also includes collaborating with senior team members on ad hoc projects, maintaining organized documentation, and supporting process improvements in line with firm standards.

Qualifications

• Candidates must possess a SAIPA-approved accounting degree (or be completing one this year).
• 0-2 years work experience. This is a great role for a (soon-to-be) new graduate.
• Candidates should possess strong analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and the ability to reconcile accounts and identify discrepancies.
• Candidates should possess effective communication and collaboration skills, including clear written and verbal communication, professional client interaction, and teamwork within a small firm environment.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, integrity in handling confidential information, and a proactive attitude toward learning and process improvement are highly valued.
• Willingness to work overtime if and when required.

The Offer

• The role offers a salary in the range of R8,000 to R13,000 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
• In addition, the firm will reimburse medical aid contributions up to a monthly ceiling.
• You will be eligible to participate in our incentive bonus scheme after a year's employment.

The Firm is in the process of becoming a SAIPA-accredited training office. Upon (the presumably successful) completion of that process, you will have the option of converting to a SAIPA training contract.

The anticipated start date is no later than January 2027.
