Job summary

AES Global in Cape Town is seeking an Intermediate Java Developer to join our expanding engineering team. This hands-on backend role focuses on secure, high-volume transaction systems and integrations with client and third-party systems in a hybrid setup.

You will work across the full delivery cycle, building new functionality, maintaining existing systems and assisting with security audits. A tertiary software qualification and 3–8 years of experience are desirable.

Qualifications

• 3-8 years hands-on development experience.
• Experience with Java SE/EE and Spring Boot.
• SQL experience with MS SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
• CI/CD and modern build workflows familiar (Maven, Git).
• REST/OpenAPI-based integrations.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain integrations with client and third-party systems.
• Design and develop new functionality for payments platforms.
• Enhance and maintain existing backend systems.
• Carry out development testing, security checks and audits.
• Handle third-line technical queries and issue resolution.
• Improve development practices and processes.
