Job summary

AES Global in Johannesburg is seeking a Java Developer to design, build and maintain scalable Java applications with reliability and performance in mind. You will join a cross-functional delivery team and influence technical direction while ensuring the software holds up under load.

You’ll work across teams to translate requirements into robust solutions, model and tune the SQL layer, and build REST services while developing responsive interfaces with UI/UX input when needed.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years writing Java with strong OOP
• Hands-on Spring Boot or Java EE or comparable framework
• SQL you are confident with and understand schema design
• Experience building and consuming REST services; integrating systems
• Experience with Agile delivery, Git and Jira in weekly work patterns
• Sharp analytical instincts and ownership of your work

Responsibilities

• Design, build and look after Java applications that have to scale
• Write clean code and participate in code reviews
• Contribute to technical design and system integration decisions
• Collaborate across teams to translate needs into working software
• Model and tune the database layer in SQL for performance and integrity
• Build REST services and interfaces between systems
• Develop responsive front-end interfaces with UI/UX input when needed
• Test and debug to ensure performance, security and reliability
• Push improvements to the team’s software practices
