Job summary

Mukuru is seeking an IT Infrastructure Architect to design and build the infrastructure that IT Operations runs, from Azure and Microsoft 365 to identity, endpoints, Wi‑Fi access control and backup. This is a hands‑on role where you will implement systems and introduce Infrastructure as Code using Terraform in a hybrid, office‑based setting.

You will design end‑to‑end systems, manage backups and DR, monitor costs, and set technical standards.

Qualifications

• Eight years of infrastructure or systems engineering experience.
• Three+ years designing infrastructure solutions.
• Hands‑on experience with Terraform or IaC tooling.
• Strong Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune knowledge.
• Networking, Wi‑Fi and network access control expertise.
• Experience with on‑prem Active Directory and Veeam backups.
• Ability to apply AI tools and automation in IT Operations.
• Scripting in PowerShell and Bash; Linux familiarity helpful.

Responsibilities

• Design IT Operations infrastructure end‑to‑end (Azure, M365, Entra ID, endpoints, backup).
• Introduce and own IaC using Terraform for Azure systems.
• Design network, endpoint and identity systems to work together.
• Develop backup and DR solutions for critical services including MS 365 and Azure.
• Monitor costs and build monitoring/alerting into deployments from the start.
• Implement designs hands‑on, not just on paper; configure systems.
• Establish standards and reference configurations for the team.
• Collaborate with relevant teams and hand off to the Lead Systems Engineer.
• Pilot new tools; evaluate AI and automation for IT Operations.
• Coordinate with leaders to convert strategy into an actionable roadmap.

As an IT Infrastructure Architect, you will design and build the infrastructure that IT Operations runs, from Azure and Microsoft 365 to identity, endpoints, Wi-Fi access control and backup.

This is a hands‑on opportunity where you will design systems from end to end, implement them yourself and introduce Infrastructure as Code using Terraform. The position is hybrid and primarily office based.

What You’ll Do

• Design IT Operations infrastructure end to end, including Azure, the Microsoft 365 tenant, Entra ID, endpoint management and backup.
• Introduce and own Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for Azure-hosted IT Operations systems, reducing build and maintenance time while making environments reproducible.
• Design network, endpoint and identity systems to work together, including WPA-Enterprise Wi‑Fi access control backed by on‑premises Active Directory and integrated with Intune.
• Design, improve and help implement backup and disaster recovery solutions for Microsoft 365 email, OneDrive, Azure, telephony and other critical systems.
• Keep Azure costs under control and design monitoring and alerting into builds from the start.
• Implement designs hands‑on by building and configuring systems rather than only planning them.
• Establish technical standards and reference configurations for the systems team to maintain.
• Hand systems over to the Lead Systems Engineer once they reach a steady state.
• Evaluate and pilot new tools and technologies relevant to IT Operations.
• Identify and implement AI‑driven tools and automation for monitoring, alert correlation and routine administration, in line with company AI and security policies.
• Turn the Head of IT Strategy and Architecture’s strategy into a practical infrastructure roadmap.
• Agree on infrastructure priorities and resourcing with the IT Operations Manager.
• Advise the business on Azure subscription costs and Microsoft 365 licensing options.
• Support the IT Operations Manager with VoIP and PBX technical design and vendor matters.
• Collaborate with InfoSec to ensure designs meet security and compliance requirements.
• Work with DevOps to align Terraform practices and tooling.
• Engage with Cloud Infrastructure, Solutions, Software and Security Architects to align IT Operations designs with the wider architecture.
• Document architecture decisions and maintain current high‑level system documentation.

What You’ll Bring

• A bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science or a related field would be advantageous.
• Certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), HashiCorp Terraform Associate, Microsoft 365 Administrator (MS-102) or Microsoft 365 Endpoint Administrator (MD-102) would be advantageous.
• At least eight years’ experience in infrastructure or systems engineering, including three or more years designing infrastructure solutions.
• Hands‑on experience with Terraform or another Infrastructure as Code tool.
• Strong experience with Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune.
• Working knowledge of networking, Wi‑Fi and network access control technologies such as Aruba ClearPass.
• Working knowledge of on‑premises Active Directory.
• Experience designing backup and recovery solutions such as Veeam.
• Experience applying AI tools and automation in IT Operations is strongly preferred.
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools would be advantageous.
• Strong PowerShell or equivalent Linux scripting experience, such as Bash.
• Experience with Linux systems would be advantageous.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines would be advantageous.
• Willingness to travel to offices when required.Ability to work in a hybrid, primarily office‑based position.
