Placements24 in East London, Eastern Cape, seeks a Legal Counsel specialized in Intellectual Property to manage and protect the company’s IP assets, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and licenses. The role collaborates with R&D, marketing and business development to secure competitive advantages.

The ideal candidate is admitted in SA High Court, with 6+ years in IP law and a technical degree. You will draft and negotiate IP agreements, conduct due diligence, and stay abreast of evolving

Qualifications

• Admitted SA High Court attorney with IP focus
• Post-admission IP experience ≥6 years
• Technical degree in Engineering, Chemistry or CS highly desirable
• Proven patent drafting, prosecution and IP strategy experience
• In-depth knowledge of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret law
• Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and with technical teams
• International IP practice experience advantageous
• Strong interest in technology and innovation

Responsibilities

• Manage patent portfolio globally (filing, prosecution, maintenance)
• Oversee worldwide trademark registration and enforcement
• Advise on copyright matters and protection of works
• Draft, review and negotiate IP licensing, R&D and joint development agreements
• Conduct IP due diligence for acquisitions and partnerships
• Advise on IP risks and opportunities for business units
• Manage IP disputes and enforcement actions
• Develop and implement IP policies and procedures
• conducts freedom-to-operate and patentability searches and analyses
• Stay current with changes in IP law and regulations
