Job title: Investment Analyst
Location: Cape Town (hybrid, 2–3 days a week in the office)
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Department: Investments
About the company
Our client is a founder-led international investment firm that backs early- and growth-stage companies. It is headquartered in London and is opening a Cape Town office. The team is small, senior and fast-moving, and the founder works closely with everyone who joins.
About the role
This is a first step into investing. You will work directly with the founder, starting as a generalist, and over two to three years you’ll be trained into a full investing role. Your responsibility will grow as you prove yourself.
What you’ll do
- Find and track companies, follow funding rounds, map sectors and flag opportunities early
- Speak to founders and write first-pass assessments of the business, its market and its competitors
- Analyse financials, build models and write short investment notes that take a clear view
- Keep the pipeline up to date and prepare briefing notes before meetings and trips
- Use data, AI tools and automation to make research and screening faster and more thorough
What we’re looking for
- A newly qualified CA(SA), ideally trained at a Big 4 firm, or someone finishing articles at the end of 2026. Recently qualified actuaries are equally welcome.
- Strong academics throughout, including matric and university results, and first-time passes in professional exams
- Evidence of sustained excellence outside the classroom: leadership roles (head student, captain, society or committee) and a standout achievement such as provincial or national sport, music or similar
- Someone who has made the most of the opportunities they were given
- Strong data skills and comfort with large datasets and modelling, combined with the people skills to build relationships with founders and hold your own with senior investors
- Hungry, curious, fast, exact and self-directed
- Coding ability (Python or similar) is a plus, not a requirement
- Based in Cape Town with the right to work in South Africa. The role involves some short-notice travel, so dual nationality is an advantage.
What’s on offer
- Training directly under an experienced founder and investor
- A competitive package of base salary, performance bonus and long-term incentive
- A January 2027 start, with flexibility for candidates waiting on articles or APC results
- A hybrid working arrangement in a new Cape Town office
