Job summary

King Price Insurance is seeking an intermediate QA Engineer to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of our digital solutions within the Long-Term Insurance domain. This role blends manual exploratory testing with automated test engineering, focusing on validating Angular front-ends and Java/Spring Boot microservices deployed on AWS.

Using Katalon Studio as our primary automation framework, you will help accelerate release cycles while maintaining strict financial compliance and data

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in a formal Software Quality Assurance role.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining web UI and API test automation using Katalon Studio.
• Deep understanding of web application testing, especially identifying and interacting with dynamic elements in Angular.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture (Java/Spring Boot) and ability to read code structures or construct API payloads.
• Experience executing tests or checking system health within an AWS cloud environment.
• Proficiency in writing SQL queries to validate complex data configurations and backend transformations.
• Experience within Life Insurance/FinTech/Banking spaces is advantageous.
• Understanding of regulatory standards like POPIA and data security protocols for financial services.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute modular automated test scripts using Katalon Studio for web UI and API layers.
• Integrate automated regression suites into CI/CD pipelines to ensure rapid, continuous feedback.
• Maintain and optimize the test automation object repository and custom keyword libraries.
• Perform thorough manual exploratory, functional, and UAT testing on Angular front-ends.
• Conduct end-to-end integration testing across policy engines, payment gateways, and CRM systems.
• Validate complex business logic including premium calculations, waiting periods, claims workflows, and policy schedules.
• Perform thorough API testing on Java and Spring Boot microservices; verify database transactions and state changes.
• Review logs with AWS CloudWatch; collaborate in Agile/Scrum environment to refine requirements.
• Log detailed, reproducible bug reports with clear steps, screenshots, and log snippets within Jira; document test plans and matrices.

This role requires a blend of manual exploratory testing and automated test engineering. You will focus on validating responsive Angular front-ends as well as back-end Java / Spring Boot microservices deployed natively on AWS. Using Katalon Studio as our primary automation framework, you will help accelerate our release cycles while maintaining strict financial compliance and data integrity.

Responsibilities

Test Automation & Execution (Katalon Studio)

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute modular, reusable automated test scripts using Katalon Studio for both web UI and API layers.
• Integrate automated regression suites into our CI/CD pipelines to ensure rapid, continuous feedback.
• Maintain and optimize the test automation object repository and custom keyword libraries.

Manual & Exploratory Testing

• Perform thorough manual exploratory, functional, and user acceptance testing (UAT) on newly developed Angular web front-ends.
• Conduct end-to-end integration testing across downstream long-term insurance policy engines, payment gateways, and CRM systems.
• Validate complex business logic including premium calculations, waiting periods, claims workflows, and policy schedules.

API & Backend Validation

• Perform thorough API testing on Java and Spring Boot microservices.
• Verify database transactions, data mapping, and state changes resulting from front-end interactions.

Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps Collaboration

• Leverage AWS cloud tools (such as CloudWatch) to review logs, identify runtime exceptions, and isolate root causes of application defects.
• Collaborate closely with developers, business analysts, and product owners in an Agile/Scrum environment to refine requirements and acceptance criteria.

Defect Management & Documentation

• Log detailed, reproducible bug reports with clear steps, screenshots, and log snippets within Jira.
• Document comprehensive test plans, test cases, and matrix reports to track overall software quality and release readiness.

Requirements & Qualifications

Technical Experience

• Minimum of 3-5 years in a formal Software Quality Assurance role.
• Proven, hands‑on experience building and maintaining web UI and API test automation using Katalon Studio.
• Deep understanding of web application testing, specifically identifying and interacting with dynamic elements in Angular applications.
• Strong conceptual understanding of microservices architecture (Java / Spring Boot) and basic ability to read/understand code structures or construct API payloads.
• Experience executing tests or checking system health within an AWS cloud environment.
• Proficient in writing intermediate SQL queries to validate complex data configurations and backend transformations.
• Previous experience working within Life Insurance, Funeral Cover, Endowments, or broader FinTech/Banking spaces is highly advantageous.
• Understanding of regulatory standards like POPIA and strict data security protocols for financial services.
