Job summary

Hatch is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our Mining Infrastructure Engineering team in Johannesburg. You will contribute to the design, assessment, and delivery of surface and underground mining infrastructure across all project phases.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of post-graduate experience in engineering consulting, EPCM, mining, or industrial environments.
• Registration as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA; progress toward professional registration is preferred.
• BSc/B.Eng degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Mechanical system design experience, preferably within mining or industrial environments.
• Working knowledge of fluid simulation software such as FluidFlow, AFT Fathom or Flownex is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Developing mechanical design basis and criteria
• Developing technical specifications
• Developing mechanical and piping designs from Concept Phase through to Execution
• Developing technical discipline documentation for enquiry and contract placement purposes – Scope of Work documents and Material Take-Offs
• Undertaking mechanical and piping analysis and design calculations, incl. design reports
• Understanding relevant local and international mechanical and piping codes (e.g., ASME B31.3)
• Guiding 3D model development and reviews by designers
• Reviewing mechanical and piping drawings thoroughly
• Co-ordination across intra- and inter-discipline teams
• Participating in client meetings and risk reviews (HAZiD, HAZOP)
• Collaborating on projects to develop innovative solutions
