Job summary

Maragon Olympus in Pretoria East is seeking an Intermediate Phase Teacher to deliver CAPS-aligned, engaging and differentiated lessons across learning areas. The role emphasizes inquiry-based teaching, integration of digital tools, and a Christ-centred, supportive classroom culture.

The successful candidate will plan, assess and intervention to support diverse learners, while collaborating with staff and parents to drive academic excellence within a Christ-centred ethos.

Qualifications

• A B.Ed Intermediate Phase degree or a relevant degree with a PGCE.
• SACE registration and valid Police Clearance (non-negotiable).
• 2-5 years of teaching experience, preferably within the Intermediate Phase.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of the CAPS curriculum and its assessment requirements.
• Experience with inquiry-based learning and differentiated instruction would be advantageous.
• Strong computer and digital literacy, with the ability to integrate educational technology effectively into teaching and learning.
• Experience with educational technology platforms and digital learning resources would be advantageous.
• Valid First Aid certification would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, challenging and differentiated lessons aligned with the CAPS curriculum.
• Demonstrate sound subject knowledge and effective teaching methodologies across the relevant learning areas.
• Develop learners' conceptual understanding, critical thinking, creativity, communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Apply an inquiry-based approach that encourages learners to investigate, question, explore and construct their own understanding.
• Incorporate real-world applications to make learning meaningful, relevant and engaging.
• Use a variety of teaching methodologies, resources, visual aids and practical activities to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
• Integrate digital tools and educational technology meaningfully into teaching and learning.
• Identify learning gaps and provide appropriate intervention, support and extension to meet individual learner needs.
• Monitor learner progress continuously and use assessment data to inform teaching practices and improve academic outcomes.
• Create a positive classroom culture that promotes curiosity, independence, perseverance, responsibility and a love of learning.
• Encourage learners to communicate their thinking, justify their responses and engage respectfully with different perspectives.
• Maintain effective classroom management and establish clear routines, expectations and procedures.
• Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, emotional maturity and enthusiasm in all aspects of the role.
• Develop positive partnerships with parents, colleagues and the wider school community.
• Collaborate with colleagues, Heads of Department and the academic leadership team to strengthen teaching practices and improve learner achievement.
• Participate actively in school events, staff development initiatives, extracurricular activities and other responsibilities as required.
• Model and uphold the Christian ethos, values and standards of Maragon Olympus.
