Infrastructure & Platform Engineer | Cape Town CBD | Hybrid
Salary: R70 000 - R80 000 per month
Are you an experienced Infrastructure & Platform Engineer with strong AWS and hybrid infrastructure expertise?
We’re looking for a hands‑on engineer to take ownership of cloud and on‑premise infrastructure in a regulated, business‑critical production environment. This is not a narrow DevOps or traditional systems administration role, you’ll be expected to investigate issues end‑to‑end, implement safe infrastructure changes, and continuously improve the reliability, security and operational maturity of the environment.
What you’ll be doing
- Take ownership of infrastructure investigations and changes across a multi‑account AWS environment.
- Validate live infrastructure state, gather evidence and implement approved changes safely.
- Design and deliver infrastructure changes using Terraform / OpenTofu rather than manual console configuration.
- Build practical automation to improve operational checks, access reviews and audit processes.
- Maintain and troubleshoot hybrid infrastructure, including datacentre connectivity, networking, virtualisation, backups and monitoring.
- Improve logging, security visibility and audit readiness across the infrastructure estate.
- Maintain accurate infrastructure diagrams, inventories, runbooks and technical documentation.
- Work closely with internal teams and external vendors to drive technical actions through to completion.
- Support production environments where reliability, traceability and controlled change are critical.
What we’re looking for
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience managing multi‑account AWS environments.
- Strong experience delivering infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code.
- Solid networking fundamentals and the ability to troubleshoot across multiple infrastructure layers.
- Strong Linux and general infrastructure knowledge.
- Experience with Terraform and/or OpenTofu.
- Experience working with hybrid cloud and on‑premise infrastructure.
- Exposure to security, logging, monitoring and audit requirements.
- Experience working in regulated, highly available or business‑critical production environments would be highly advantageous.
- AWS certification would be beneficial.
The right person will be
- Highly accountable and willing to own technical issues through to resolution.
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Methodical and careful when dealing with production systems and infrastructure changes.
- Able to communicate effectively with engineers, management, vendors and other stakeholders.
- Calm and structured when dealing with incidents and complex technical problems.
- Practical, hands‑on and focused on implementing solutions rather than simply identifying problems.
If you're an AWS-focused infrastructure professional who enjoys taking genuine ownership of complex environments and improving how infrastructure is operated, documented and secured, we'd like to hear from you.
