Job summary

Deka Minas (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to advance our cloud infrastructure across banking, fintech, and IT sectors. This hybrid role in Gauteng focuses on designing scalable, secure AWS-based environments and guiding infrastructure decisions to optimize cost and performance.

You will implement IaC, support ongoing operations, and mentor engineers while promoting DevOps and platform engineering maturity across the team.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in cloud engineering or related roles.
• Deep AWS experience (VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, Lambda, RDS, EKS/ECS).
• Strong knowledge of IaC and cloud security practices.
• Experience with cloud security standards and risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Support the development and implementation of the organisation's infrastructure strategy.
• Design and deploy cloud solutions aligned with AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
• Develop technical specifications and architectural blueprints for highly available, resilient, and scalable environments.
• Provide guidance on AWS and other cloud technologies to ensure optimal service selection and cost efficiency.
• Assist in defining and maintaining cloud security standards, procedures, and controls.
• Support the identification and mitigation of infrastructure, cybersecurity, and operational risks.
• Engineer, manage, and support cloud infrastructure using IaC methodologies.
• Manage cloud environments, hosted services, and on-premises infrastructure platforms.
• Perform operational maintenance, upgrades, patching, and ongoing support of servers and operating systems.
• Design and implement backup, recovery, and business continuity processes.
• Ensure infrastructure reliability, performance, scalability, and security.
• Support platform optimisation initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
• Act as a technical advisor for new infrastructure and platform requests.
• Assist with workload prioritisation and allocation across platform initiatives.
• Promote engineering best practices, automation, and operational excellence.
• Mentor and support technical team members.
• Contribute to the continuous evolution of DevOps and Platform Engineering capabilities.
