Job summary

Placements24 is partnering with a well-established services organization in Soweto, Gauteng, to hire an Information Security Specialist focused on Compliance. The role is on-site at the Soweto office, requiring daily presence.

The ideal candidate will drive regulatory compliance programs, conduct assessments, and ensure alignment with POPIA, GDPR, ISO 27001, and NIST standards while collaborating with legal and IT teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Law, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of information security experience with focus on compliance.
• Strong knowledge of data protection laws (POPIA, GDPR).
• Familiarity with ISO 27001 and NIST frameworks.
• Experience in risk assessments and remediation planning.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and juggle multiple tasks.
• Certifications such as CIPP, CISA, or CISSP are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain information security policies, procedures, and standards for regulatory compliance.
• Conduct regular compliance assessments and audits to identify gaps and ensure standards adherence (POPIA, GDPR, etc.).
• Monitor regulatory changes and update compliance programs accordingly.
• Manage risk management framework related to information security and data privacy.
• Develop and deliver security awareness and compliance training for employees.
• Investigate and respond to compliance-related security incidents.
• Liaise with legal counsel and regulators on compliance matters.
• Maintain documentation for compliance efforts (policies, audits, reports).
• Assist in business continuity and disaster recovery planning from a compliance perspective.
• Provide guidance to other departments on information security and data privacy.
