Placements24 is seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing plant machinery, performing preventative tasks, and ensuring safety and efficiency in a demanding industrial setting.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter and Turner or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
• Experience with welding, brazing, and rigging.
• Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Good communication and teamwork; safety-focused.
• Willingness to work shifts, including weekends/holidays.
• Experience in Richards Bay area is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, conveyors, gearboxes and hydraulic systems.
• Diagnose faults, identify root causes and implement repair solutions.
• Inspect machinery regularly to detect issues and perform preventative tasks.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints and manuals to facilitate repairs.
• Use precision measuring instruments, welding equipment and hand tools.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts and time.
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies.
• Assist in installation and commissioning of new equipment.
• Respond promptly to requests and minimize downtime.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance procedures.
