Qualifications

• Qualified Artisan with relevant trade certification and post-qualification industrial plant maintenance experience.
• Experience in maintaining and repairing large-scale mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proficiency with welding, fabrication and fitting techniques.
• Ability to read technical drawings, P&IDs and electrical schematics.

Responsabilités

• Execute preventative maintenance schedules for plant machinery including crushers, conveyors, pumps and motors.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime.
• Perform welding, fabrication and general mechanical repairs as required.
• Interpret drawings and manuals to guide repair work and installations.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment and upgrades.
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs and reports of work performed and parts used.
• Adhere to site safety regulations and participate in safety initiatives.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues and propose long-term solutions.
• Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to optimise equipment performance.

About the Role

Our client, a significant player in the heavy industry sector, is actively seeking a skilled Plant Maintenance Technician to join their facility in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. This role is instrumental in ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of their industrial plant by performing essential maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of heavy machinery and processing equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical and electrical maintenance within an industrial environment. Key Responsibilities

• Execute preventative maintenance schedules for all plant machinery, including crushers, conveyors, pumps, and motors.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on plant equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Perform welding, fabricating, and general mechanical repairs as required.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals to guide repair work.
• Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment and plant upgrades.
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs and reports, documenting all work performed and parts used.
• Ensure strict adherence to all site safety regulations and procedures, participating actively in safety initiatives.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues, proposing effective and long-term solutions.
• Work collaboratively with operations and engineering teams to optimize equipment performance.

Requirements

• Qualified Artisan (e.g., Millwright, Electrician, Mechanical Fitter) with relevant trade certification.
• A minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience in industrial plant maintenance, preferably in mining, manufacturing, or a similar heavy industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in maintaining and repairing large-scale mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proficiency in welding, fabrication, and fitting techniques.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to identifying potential failures.
• Commitment to safety and experience working in a high-risk industrial environment.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including shifts and overtime when necessary.
• Must be physically fit and capable of working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Located in or able to relocate to Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.
