Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Technician to join our Richards Bay operations. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose faults, install and commission new equipment, and respond to breakdowns, ensuring uptime and safety.

Ideal candidates have strong mechanical/electrical skills, PLC exposure, and the ability to read schematics. Travel within KwaZulu-Natal may be required; a National Diploma in Engineering is preferred. Hybrid work options may apply.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Equipment Maintenance Technician in an industrial setting.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with knowledge of control systems (PLC experience a plus).
• Experience diagnosing and repairing complex machinery.
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Commitment to safety and maintaining a secure work environment.
• Based in Richards Bay or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on industrial automation machinery.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults.
• Install and commission new equipment, ensuring proper configuration and testing.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency repair requests.
• Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify root causes of failures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and spare parts inventory.
• Collaborate with production teams to schedule maintenance activities and minimize operational impact.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Assist in troubleshooting and improving equipment reliability and performance.
• Stay updated on new maintenance techniques and technologies relevant to industrial automation.
