Job summary

Merck in Cape Town, South Africa, seeks a Maintenance Technician with 3-5 years of experience to perform planned, preventative, and corrective maintenance across production and facilities. The role requires knowledge of electrical safety, PLC fundamentals, CMMS, and contractor coordination.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years' maintenance experience in manufacturing, warehousing, or industrial settings.
• Knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance practices.
• Basic Electrical Safety Certification is preferred.
• PLC fundamentals and industrial automation training.
• Knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned, preventative, and corrective maintenance on production equipment, warehouse equipment, facilities, utilities, and infrastructure.
• Respond to equipment and facility breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety risks, and equipment failures.
• Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules.
• Support implementation of maintenance and reliability processes including asset registers and contractor management.
• Coordinate statutory inspections and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and company standards including LOTO.
• Coordinate and manage contractors to ensure work is safe, on time, and meets standards.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain maintenance records, compliance docs, asset registers, and spare parts inventory.
• Support fire system inspections, testing, and corrective actions.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Support EHS programs, risk reduction, audits, and compliance initiatives.
• Participate in site projects and equipment installations.
• Provide operational support as a secondary Laser Operator when required.
• Perform additional duties as required.
