About the Role

Our client, a prominent automotive parts manufacturer located in Bloemfontein, Free State , is seeking an Industrial Engineer with a specialized focus on ergonomics and human factors. This crucial role involves the analysis and design of work systems, tools, and environments to optimize human performance, safety, and well-being. The successful candidate will play a key part in reducing workplace injuries, improving task efficiency, and enhancing overall employee comfort and productivity. This position is essential for ensuring a safe and efficient working environment within the manufacturing facility in Bloemfontein . This role requires a dedicated on-site presence to effectively conduct assessments and implement solutions directly within the operational areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct ergonomic assessments of workstations, tools, and tasks to identify risks of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and other physical strains.
• Design and recommend modifications to workstations, equipment, and processes to improve ergonomics and reduce physical demands on employees.
• Develop and implement ergonomic training programs for employees and supervisors.
• Analyze human performance data to optimize task design and workflow for maximum efficiency and minimum fatigue.
• Collaborate with safety officers, production managers, and medical staff to address workplace injury concerns.
• Utilize anthropometric data and human factors principles in the design of new facilities and the modification of existing ones.
• Investigate workplace incidents and near misses related to ergonomic factors and recommend preventive measures.
• Stay current with research and best practices in ergonomics, human factors, and occupational health and safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Occupational Therapy, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial engineering with a demonstrable focus on ergonomics and human factors.
• Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or similar certification is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in ergonomic assessment tools and techniques (e.g., RULA, REBA, NIOSH Lifting Equation).
• Strong understanding of biomechanics, anthropometry, and human capabilities.
• Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence change.
• Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
• Must be eligible to work in South Africa and available for on-site work in Bloemfontein .
