Placements24 is seeking an experienced Industrial Control Systems Technician to maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and robotic equipment on our Vereeniging production lines. You will calibrate instrumentation, read P&ID diagrams, and ensure safe, reliable operation of automated processes.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of hands-on industrial automation experience and a strong background in electronics, instrumentation, and control systems.

Qualifications

• Relevant technical qualification in Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 3–5 years hands-on experience with industrial control systems, PLCs and HMIs.
• Strong understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols.
• Ability to read electrical, mechanical and P&ID drawings.
• Experience with instrumentation and control loop tuning.
• Knowledge of safety standards in industrial environments.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with shifts and call-outs.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial control systems including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and robotics.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and robotics.
• Perform calibration and configuration of instrumentation and control devices.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&ID diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues within control systems.
• Implement software updates and patches for PLCs, HMIs, and other control system components.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize system performance and implement upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies during maintenance and repair activities.
• Perform preventative maintenance routines on control systems and associated equipment.
• Respond to control system alarms and malfunctions, restoring systems to operational status quickly.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, and system configurations.

Requirements

• Relevant technical qualification in Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience with industrial control systems, PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), and HMIs.
• Strong understanding of industrial networks (e.g., Profibus, Ethernet/IP) and communication protocols.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical, mechanical, and P&ID drawings.
• Experience with instrumentation and control loop tuning.
• Knowledge of safety standards and procedures in an industrial environment.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work shifts and be available for call-outs as needed.
• Valid driver's license is required.
