Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Engineer specializing in Industrial Automation for its Mossel Bay facility in the Western Cape. The role focuses on design, implementation, and maintenance of automated control systems to ensure safe, efficient operation of production lines.

The successful candidate will program PLC and HMI systems, develop electrical schematics, and collaborate with maintenance teams to drive preventative maintenance and safety standards across the plant.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation and control systems.
• Proficiency in programming PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens S7, Rockwell ControlLogix) and HMI software.
• Strong understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and technical manuals.
• Excellent diagnostic skills, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and commission PLC and HMI systems for new equipment and process upgrades.
• Develop electrical schematics and control panel layouts using CAD software.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and automation issues on the plant floor to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to implement preventative maintenance strategies for electrical and automation equipment.
• Specify and select electrical components, sensors, and actuators for automation projects.
• Ensure all automation designs comply with relevant safety standards and regulations, including those specific to the Western Cape industrial sector.
