The role requires developing and monitoring FSMS programs, conducting audits, delivering training, and coordinating with QA, production and maintenance to mitigate risks. Hybrid work includes some remote oversight; strong HACCP/GMP knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Environmental Health, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hygiene/sanitation experience in the food industry.
• Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and FSMS.
• Experience with hygiene audits and corrective actions.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain hygiene and sanitation programs (HACCP, ISO 22000).
• Conduct regular audits of production areas, equipment, and staff practices to ensure compliance with hygiene protocols.
• Monitor and manage the cleaning and sanitization of all production equipment and facilities.
• Oversee the proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Develop and deliver hygiene training programs for all employees involved in food handling.
• Investigate and address any hygiene-related non-conformances or customer complaints.
• Maintain detailed records of all hygiene activities, including audits, training, and corrective actions.
• Liaise with quality control, production, and maintenance teams to ensure integrated food safety management.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent food processing company operating in the Bloemfontein, Free State region, is seeking a diligent and knowledgeable Hygiene and Sanitation Officer. This role is crucial for maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene throughout the production process. The Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive hygiene programs to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry best practices. You will conduct regular inspections, audits, and training sessions to foster a culture of cleanliness and safety among all staff. This position requires a strong understanding of food safety management systems (FSMS) and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential risks.
