Job summary

Placements24 partners with a Port Elizabeth client to recruit a seasoned Hydropower Project Manager to lead the development and execution of large energy projects.

You will oversee planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, ensuring on-time delivery, budget discipline, and strict safety and quality standards in a hybrid work model.

The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder management, and experience delivering infrastructure from inception to completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• 8+ years in project management within the energy sector, hydropower focus.
• Experience delivering large-scale infrastructure from inception to completion.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills; PM software proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Manage the complete lifecycle of hydropower projects, from planning to commissioning.
• Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
• Oversee design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, suppliers, and regulators.

About the Role

Our client in Port Elizabeth is looking for a seasoned Hydropower Project Manager to lead the development and execution of ambitious new energy projects. This role requires a leader capable of managing all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial planning and feasibility studies to construction and commissioning. You will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. This hybrid role allows for strategic planning from home combined with essential on-site project oversight and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the complete lifecycle of hydropower projects , ensuring successful delivery.
• Develop and execute detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
• Oversee engineering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
• Manage project risks, identify potential issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and quality management systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in project management within the energy sector , specifically in hydropower development.
• Demonstrated success in managing large-scale infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
• Strong understanding of hydro mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
