Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Substance Abuse Counselor to support individuals in Upington, Northern Cape. The position combines in-person client sessions with remote administrative duties in a hybrid model.

You will conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and lead individual and group therapy to support recovery. Travel to local sessions will be required as needed, with emphasis on confidentiality and ethical practice.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in substance abuse counseling or addiction treatment.
• Accreditation or registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., HPCSA).
• Experience providing individual and group therapy; strong therapeutic skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments to determine clients' needs and readiness for change.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based techniques.
• Facilitate individual counseling sessions addressing addiction and co-occurring disorders.
• Lead group therapy sessions focusing on relapse prevention and coping skills.
• Provide crisis intervention during acute phases of addiction or withdrawal.
• Collaborate with families to foster a supportive recovery environment.
• Connect clients with community resources and housing assistance.
• Maintain confidential client records and progress notes in line with ethics.
• Stay updated on best practices in addiction counseling and case consultations.
