Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator based in Kimberley, operating in a hybrid work model. The role focuses on performance, security, and integrity of large-scale relational databases across the Northern Cape region.

You will manage SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL environments, implement tuning strategies, and lead backup/recovery and DR efforts while collaborating with development teams to optimise queries and schema.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience as a Senior Database Administrator managing SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
• Deep knowledge of performance tuning, query optimisation, and indexing strategies.
• Expertise in backup, recovery, HA and DR solutions.
• Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices.
• Scripting experience (T-SQL, PL/SQL, PowerShell) for automation.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain DBMS.
• Monitor performance, resolve bottlenecks, and tune DBs.
• Design and implement backup, recovery, and DR solutions.
• Ensure database security through access control and audits.
• Manage capacity planning and resource constraints.
• Develop scripts for routine maintenance and automation.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues with urgency.
• Collaborate with dev teams to optimise queries and schema.
