Job summary

A leading multinational corporation in Centurion, Gauteng, is seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain critical database systems, ensuring performance, availability, security and data integrity for extensive repositories.

You will design, implement and tune databases, develop backup and recovery strategies, and troubleshoot complex issues while collaborating with development teams to optimize applications and ensure scalable data solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
• Proven experience with major relational database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and database design principles.
• Experience with database performance tuning and monitoring tools.
• Proficiency in backup and recovery strategies.
• Experience with database security implementation and user management.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation.
• Understanding of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database software (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies to optimize query execution and overall system efficiency.
• Design, implement, and manage robust backup and recovery procedures to ensure data protection and business continuity.
• Ensure database security by implementing access controls, user management, and security patches.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and problems in a timely manner.
• Perform capacity planning and ensure adequate storage and resources for database growth.
• Develop and maintain database documentation, including standards, procedures, and guidelines.
• Automate routine database administration tasks using scripting languages (e.g., SQL, PowerShell, Bash).
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure efficient database design and query performance for applications.
• Implement and manage database replication, clustering, and high availability solutions.
• Stay current with new database technologies and best practices.
