Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage and optimize critical database systems in Mahikeng, North West. You will implement design, installation, patching, tuning, and secure backup/recovery processes to ensure performance and data integrity.

The role requires strong SQL skills, experience with major RDBMS, and collaboration with development and operations teams to enhance database performance and enable business initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator.
• Proven experience with one or more major RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Strong knowledge of database architecture, design, and tuning.
• Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (T-SQL, PL/SQL, Bash).
• Experience with backup/recovery tools and methodologies.
• Understanding of database security principles and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database servers (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and tune for efficiency.
• Manage backup, recovery, and archival strategies.
• Ensure security with access controls, auditing, and compliance measures.
• Document database environments and procedures.
• Collaborate with developers to optimize SQL queries and design.
• Plan capacity and manage resources; troubleshoot issues.
• Support migrations and consolidations, stay updated on technologies.
