Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Distribution Engineer in Port Elizabeth for a hybrid role combining on-site project work with remote tasks. You will design, plan, operate and maintain distribution networks to deliver reliable power across a broad customer base, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate has a BEng in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in distribution engineering, proficiency in CYME/ETAP/AutoCAD, and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical distribution engineering or related field.
• Proficiency with distribution design/analysis software: CYME, ETAP, AutoCAD.
• Strong knowledge of distribution components, protection principles, and best practices.
• Familiarity with South African electrical standards and utility regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for teamwork and external stakeholders.
• Ability to perform site inspections as required.
• ECSA registration as Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech. Eng is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan new electrical distribution circuits and upgrade existing infrastructure.
• Develop technical specifications for distribution equipment (transformers, switchgear, cables, protection devices).
• Perform load forecasting, power flow analysis, and short-circuit studies.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes and regulations.
• Investigate and resolve power quality issues and customer outages.
• Collaborate with field crews, project managers and other engineers on projects.
• Prepare reports and technical documentation on distribution performance and planning.
• Contribute to long-term expansion and modernization plans.
