Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer for a hybrid role in Mahikeng, North West. You will lead design of electrical systems for heavy mining equipment, develop control panels, power distribution, and safety circuits, and ensure compliance with mining standards.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 6 years of hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, and industrial control systems, plus strong CAD skills (EPLAN, AutoCAD

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Minimum 6 years of experience in electrical design for heavy industrial equipment, mining sector preferred.
Proficiency in electrical CAD software and design tools.
In-depth knowledge of industrial control systems, PLCs, VFDs, and instrumentation.
Understanding of power system analysis and electrical safety standards in mining environments.
Experience with ruggedized components selection and specification.

Responsibilities

Design and develop electrical systems for mining equipment, including control panels, power distribution, motor controls, and safety circuits.
Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs using CAD software (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical).
Specify electrical components for harsh mining environments.
Collaborate with mechanical, software, and project teams to integrate electrical systems.
Ensure designs comply with mining safety standards and customer specs.
Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA for electrical systems.
Provide technical support during manufacturing, assembly, testing, and commissioning.
Troubleshoot electrical issues during prototype or field operations.
Contribute to ongoing improvement of electrical design processes.
