Placements24 is seeking an innovative Automotive Systems Engineer for a hybrid role in George, Western Cape. You will design, integrate, and validate automotive systems, collaborating with software, hardware and mechanical engineering teams to push next‑gen vehicle performance, safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive systems engineering, with a proven track record in system design, integration, and validation.
• Strong understanding of automotive architectures, including powertrain, chassis, body control, and infotainment systems.
• Proficiency with systems engineering tools and methodologies (DOORS, SysML, AUTOSAR).
• Experience with simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink) is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in both team-based and independent settings.
• Familiarity with safety standards such as ISO 26262 is an advantage.
• Experience with CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and other automotive communication protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate complex automotive systems and subsystems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., software, hardware, mechanical, manufacturing) to define system architectures and integration strategies.
• Create and maintain system requirements, specifications, and interface control documents.
• Perform system integration, testing, and validation activities, identifying and resolving issues throughout the product lifecycle.
• Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and reports for system-level performance and functionality.
• Analyze test data, troubleshoot system-level problems, and propose effective solutions.
• Contribute to the development of simulation models and virtual testing environments.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Stay current with emerging automotive technologies, industry trends, and best practices in systems engineering.
• Ensure that all developed systems meet stringent quality, safety, and reliability standards.
