Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Automotive Electrical Engineer to join our client in Durban. This role focuses on design, development, and testing of electrical systems for a range of vehicles, with a balance of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility.

You will lead electrical schematics, wiring harnesses, component layouts, and validation activities, collaborating with mechanical and systems teams to ensure seamless integration and robust performance in modern automotive platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in automotive electrical engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD software (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar).
• Strong understanding of automotive electrical systems (power electronics, battery management, and control systems).
• Knowledge of CAN/LIN protocols.
• Experience with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work in a team and independently.
• Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical schematics, wiring harnesses, and component layouts for automotive applications.
• Collaborate with mechanical and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical components.
• Perform electrical system analysis, including power distribution, signal integrity, and EMC/EMI testing.
• Specify and select electrical components, sensors, and actuators.
• Develop and execute test plans for electrical systems and components, documenting results thoroughly.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues during prototype development and production phases.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of electrical system designs and manufacturing processes.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date design documentation and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in automotive electrical engineering.
