Job summary

Takealot Group in Cape Town is seeking an HR intern as part of its Graduate Programme. The role provides hands-on exposure to the employee lifecycle, data management, and HR documentation within a fast-paced, tech-driven retail environment.

The 18-month contract offers learning opportunities through mentorship and access to online courses, with support from the Engineering & HR teams as you develop both technical and soft skills for a career in HR.

  • N6 Certificate in Human Resource Management.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Support: assist end-to-end employee lifecycle administration, onboarding prep and record maintenance.
  • Data & Reporting Support: collect and verify HR data; keep spreadsheets and systems up to date; assist with basic reports.
  • Process Maintenance: help maintain SOPs and filing systems; ensure documentation is compliant and retrievable.
  • Communication Liaison: act as a helpful contact for routine HR queries and escalate complex issues.
  • Project Support: participate in engineering and HR projects by researching, taking minutes, and coordinating meetings.

Role Purpose:

Provide operational and administrative support to the Engineering & Product HR team. This role is designed as a learning opportunity within our Graduate Programme, where the intern will assist with the employee lifecycle, data maintenance, and HR documentation, gaining hands‑on exposure to human resources practices in a fast‑paced, tech‑driven retail environment.

Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:

N6 Certificate in Human Resource Management

The skills we need:
  • Computer Literacy
  • Strong Attention to Detail: Ability to handle data and documentation with high accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Time management and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) is essential.

Key responsibilities:
  • Administrative Support: Assist with end-to-end employee lifecycle administration, including onboarding preparation, offboarding documentation, and maintaining accurate personnel records.
  • Data & Reporting Support: Help with the collection and verification of HR data, ensuring spreadsheets and systems (like Greenhouse) are up to date. Assist in preparing basic reports and presentations.
  • Process Maintenance: Support the team in maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and filing systems, ensuring all documentation is compliant and easy to retrieve.
  • Communication Liaison: Act as a helpful point of contact for routine employee HR queries, escalating complex issues to the People Practitioner.
  • Project Support: Participate in and support ad‑hoc engineering and HR projects by performing research, taking minutes, or coordinating meeting logistics.

This is an 18-month contract
