Placements24 is seeking a compassionate Home Care Assistant to support individuals with dementia and Alzheimer's in the Centurion area. The role blends in-home care with administrative tasks that can be managed remotely, offering flexible, remote-friendly options for documentation and planning.

You will provide personal care, cognitive stimulation, meal preparation, and coordination with families and healthcare professionals to ensure safe, dignified, and tailored care at home.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a compassionate and skilled Home Care Assistant with specialized experience in supporting individuals with cognitive impairments, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease. This critical role operates within the Centurion, Gauteng area, providing essential in-home care that enhances the quality of life and maintains the dignity of clients. You will be responsible for creating a safe, stimulating, and supportive environment tailored to the unique needs of each client. This position requires a high degree of empathy, patience, and professionalism. While the role involves direct client interaction, a significant portion of administrative and planning duties can be managed remotely, making this a unique opportunity for remote work within the social care sector.

Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive personal care, including assistance with hygiene, dressing, grooming, and mobility, with a focus on client comfort and independence. Develop and implement tailored cognitive stimulation activities and exercises to maintain mental acuity and engagement. Administer medication reminders and monitor for any adverse reactions or changes in condition. Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary guidelines and client preferences. Assist with light housekeeping duties to ensure a clean and safe living environment. Provide companionship and emotional support, engaging clients in conversation and activities they enjoy. Manage and maintain accurate, confidential client records and communicate updates to the care team and family. Coordinate with families and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care delivery and address any emerging concerns. Adapt care strategies based on the progression of cognitive impairment and individual client needs. Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, following established protocols.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Home Care Assistant or similar role, with demonstrable experience supporting individuals with cognitive impairments. Understanding of dementia care, Alzheimer's disease, and related conditions. Excellent communication, observation, and problem-solving skills. Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others. Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively. Proficiency in using digital tools for record-keeping and communication. Valid First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain. Must pass a thorough background check and provide verifiable references. Comfortable with a Yes remote work setup for administrative aspects, while understanding the need for in-person client support.
