Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Heavy Machinery Maintenance Technician for our client in Rustenburg, North West. You will diagnose, repair, and proactively maintain a diverse fleet of heavy equipment used in mining and construction, ensuring safety and minimal downtime.

• A relevant trade qualification as Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years of hands-on maintenance/repair experience with heavy machinery (mining/construction preferred).
• Proficiency diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics and repairs on heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, dozers, and mining equipment.
• Carry out routine preventative maintenance, lubrication, fluid changes, and component checks.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Dismantle, assemble, and test components and equipment as part of repairs.
• Interpret manuals, service bulletins and repair diagrams to guide maintenance.
• Operate diagnostic tools to identify malfunctions and assess machinery condition.
• Fabricate or repair parts using welding and machining equipment.
• Maintain accurate service records of work performed, parts used and time spent.
• Adhere to safety protocols and environmental regulations; ensure tools are stored properly.
• Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.

About the Role

This position is vital for ensuring the optimal performance and safety of their extensive fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. You will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of complex machinery used in demanding industrial environments. The ideal candidate will possess a robust mechanical aptitude, a thorough understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of workmanship. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency for our client’s critical assets in the Rustenburg area. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• A relevant trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or equivalent.
• A minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery, preferably within mining, construction, or related industries.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems specific to heavy equipment.
• Ability to read and understand complex technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Strong understanding of heavy machinery components and their functions.
• Experience with diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools.
• Willingness to work in challenging environmental conditions and adhere to strict safety standards.
• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and a clear driving record are mandatory.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional overtime, in the Rustenburg vicinity.
