Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a leading architectural firm with a specialization in healthcare facilities, is seeking an experienced Healthcare Facilities Architect to join their established team in Vereeniging, Gauteng. This role is critical for the design and planning of new hospitals, clinics, and medical centers, as well as the renovation and upgrading of existing healthcare infrastructure within the Vereeniging, Gauteng region. You will be responsible for leading design efforts, ensuring compliance with stringent healthcare regulations, functional programming, and the integration of cutting‑edge medical technologies. This position demands a deep understanding of the unique requirements of healthcare environments and a commitment to creating spaces that support patient well‑being and operational efficiency. The role requires full‑time commitment at our Vereeniging, Gauteng office to facilitate close collaboration with stakeholders and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design and development of healthcare projects, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized medical facilities.
• Develop detailed functional programs, space plans, and room data sheets for medical facilities.
• Ensure designs meet all relevant healthcare building codes, standards (e.g., SANS 10400 Part XA, National Health Facility Guidelines), and accreditation requirements.
• Collaborate closely with medical professionals, hospital administrators, engineers, and consultants to understand specific needs.
• Produce high‑quality architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
• Conduct site analysis and feasibility studies for healthcare development projects.
• Oversee the construction administration phase, ensuring adherence to design intent and quality standards.
• Stay current with advancements in healthcare design, medical technology, and infection control best practices.
• Mentor junior architects and provide technical guidance on healthcare‑specific design challenges.
• Coordinate with regulatory bodies and authorities having jurisdiction for approvals.

Requirements

• Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
• Minimum of 8 years of architectural experience, with a significant portion dedicated to healthcare facility design.
• Demonstrated experience in designing various types of healthcare facilities (hospitals, clinics, labs, etc.).
• In‑depth knowledge of healthcare building codes, regulations, and standards in South Africa.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant architectural software.
• Strong understanding of medical workflows, equipment requirements, and infection control principles.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and client management skills.
• Ability to manage complex projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Professional registration with SACAP is required.
• Experience working within the Vereeniging, Gauteng region is a significant advantage.
